Ghost Stories

***Warning, may contain spoilers***

Gutted, absolutely gutted. For three quarters of this movie I was absolutely terrified. This movie had top actors in it such as Martin Freeman and Paul Whitehouse and it was absolutely terrifying. Literally this movie was going to be in my top ten of all time, but then the ending... why? Why ruin everything that has gone before?

I'll start from the beginning. Ghost Stories is a movie about an investigator who has his own tv series where he debunks the spirit world and psychics and so on.

He gets a mysterious package where he is directed to go to a caravan park and meet his hero, another guy that debunked the spirit world all his life. This man tells him he was wrong and gives him three cases to investigate that he couldn't solve that he believes prove the existence of the spirit world and ghosts and so on.

He then investigates what are essentially three stories within a movie, each one as terrifying if not more so than the last. Particularly the scene in the former insane asylum that was so so scary and I'm talking about the sort of fear where the audience was actually screaming in terror watching it, and I'm not exaggerating that actually happened!

The three ghost stories are terrifying and incredibly well directed, the sound leading up to the events in each story is incredibly eerie and the lighting just right to show enough, but not too much to make a great ghost story.

So far so good and literally I was thinking this movie may even come above A Quiet Place in my all time top ten. In fact my heart is still beating fast and I am still shaking at some parts of the movie.

But, then we come to the ending. The ending was literally absurd and ridiculous and bizzare and odd and anything else you can think of. It literally ruined the build up. When you watch three awesome ghost stories you are then hungry to see how it all ends, and seriously, what a let down. Why do it?

I can't tell you what happened as that would ruin the film as for the first three quarters of the movie, for any horror genre fan it is a must see. An absolute must see.

In fact, in conclusion I'm still going to give it 5 stars as the vast, vast majority of the movie is a must see and is absolutely terrifying. Because of the ending it fails to make my top ten but it is still a must see for the three incredible ghost stories. An outstanding movie, shame about the ending, but still 5 stars awarded. Enjoy!
